While I agree with @paul_consulting that this lot While I agree with @paul_consulting that this lot has been an eye sore for too many years. I can think of several reasons why this might be the case, of course, this is pure speculation. At the time this restaurant shut down, it was surely in need of a complete renovation to bring it up to current design standards for the brand. The franchise owner likely knew that this intersection was going to be under heavy construction for many years with the LRT construction beginning sometime in 2014. Road widening was likely going to impact the site, which it did, and therefore starting any sort of planning before the actual construction was complete would have been risky to say the least. As the site is now, I don't believe a drive through lane could fit in the previous location. So, either the owner is looking to sell the property and hasn't received the right offer, or is planning on renovating the existing structure. If they were going to build from scratch, You'd think they would have demo'd the building ages ago to prevent break-ins and vandalism. All of this rambling isn't an apology for the state of this site. Construction or renovation of the restaurant should have started as soon as the LRT began service. I do think that McDonald's, if they do intend on staying there, really needs to get their act together and do something with this lot. It is unusual for a prime piece of real estate like this to sit vacant for so many years, eventually someone with a big enough cheque will do something here. Doesn't help any of the people who live in he area who have had to look at this withered husk for the past six or so years. There's trash, overgrowth, graffiti all over this site. It's kind of negligence that gives everyone a low dose of depression and creates apathy. Personally, I'd rather the restaurant doesn't open up again. I'd much rather see an interesting piece of architecture in its place that serves the community in a beneficial way. @dtkitchener #kwawesome #dtklove #dtkitchener
